M.F. has asked us to pass this on to you all. Unfortunately Bruce has been readmitted to the hospital with internal bleeding. The doctors are saying that the disease has progressed to a point where Bruce’s body and the doctors can no longer keep up. It is likely that this will be Bruce’s last week.
Bruce is spending these last few days with M.F. and Emilie. As such, she has asked that we limit phone calls and visitors.
If you would like more information or would like to pass anything on, you can call:
Bill at 403.762.3209 /403.862.0339 or Beth at 403.760.9270.
You can also post your comments on this blog. We will try to keep you updated as often as possible.
Bruce wanted everyone to know that he has had a great life! He has lived strong. He has lived, laughed, skied and loved. He has the business, the wife and the daughter of his dreams. He has done so much – loved his days heli-skiing and being with friends. Loved his days at the B & B and loved the time he spent with MF and Emilie.
He also thinks this sucks!
He is spending time right now with Emilie – they have had some wonderful conversations over the past day or two. M.F. spent the night with Bruce in the hospital and they are heading towards this together as a family.
Bruce wants everyone to know how much he loves them.
We love you Bruce.
Bill

ReplyDeleteI never forget the day I crashed and thought I broke my neck. It was nasty as I punched the hard pack with my head and rammed my glasses up my nose. You skied up to me to see how I was doing and said "Wow!" All I could think of is why the hell was I trying to catch up to you!! What was I thinking!

Normie

Hi Bruce,
ReplyDeleteYou have done everything humanly possible to beat the cancer and have fought the good fight man.
I am emotionally present and want you to know you have touched many more people in your life than you know, with your happy camper way and your kind soul.
I will always remember fondly the talks we had and the time we shared working at the Banff Springs.
You will always put a smile on my face Bruce when I think of you. Thank you Bruce for being you.
Be at peace man, knowing that you are so loved and living in the many peoples lives you have touched.
You are living in me and you will always brighten my day when I think of you.
Always,
Grant

You fought with the courage and the strength of giants, and now you can rest. Know that you are all in my heart and my thoughts. Here's to the guy who saw me hung over more times over 10 years than anyone else in Banff ;)

Bruce, You have fought a hard fight and we are all proud of you. Hang on to each day you can and spent that time with your girls. You have touched many in your life and your positive attitude has been infectious, and that has obviously been passed to Emilie.
ReplyDeleteOur times together have always been good and memorable, skiing, on bikes, at Wild Bill's years ago or somewhere after a few too many. I am thinking of your everyday.
MF, Let me know when I can help.
Love ya,
Bartman
Yup, this sucks.

ReplyDeleteBruce,
Hey Brucey,
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see you yesterday. You looked great. Good smiles and laughs as always.
later,
ruby
its all powder from here on in Bruce- deep & fluffy.
ReplyDeleteI remember dropping in to ER3 with you one day years ago. You took this sweet line, high on skiers left just under the ridge, with a big fluid, almost old school "jet" turn. It was a thing of beauty!! Every time I ski that run, I think of that day, and "try" to duplicate the line. It will forever by "Bruce's" run in my mind. Love ya man...always.
ReplyDeleteChuck
It has been a privilege to share time and great conversations over meals and walks with you Bruce. You truly are an inspiration. I am so grateful that my time with Paul has included meeting someone like you – who reminds me of what is important in life and to ALWAYS see the bright side. The legacy you leave is as deep as the snow you so enjoyed. Love and peace to you. Laura

ReplyDeleteWe are filled with great sadness and emotion for your fight against such a heartless disease. You have been so brave as have your girls...we wish you peace in your journey. We will continue to know you through Emilie and MF and will try to keep that little blondie and our rehead out of trouble...although something tells me it is going to be a challenge! We will be there and always reminded of you...
Love,
Melissa and John, Mackenzie and Kayla
Bruce, hard to find the right words. Michel and I have fond memories of meeting you and MF at Bill & Lucies wedding in Maui and that great night shared by all at the surfers "shack". I was posting pictures the other night on our weekend rendezvous at Shuswap a few years back. Thanks for the skiing and the great B&B hospitality. From the Auberge du Pre to the Auberge Kickinghorse....it's been almost 5 years since we all set off on that path. MF, our love and support is there for you.Big hugs and kisses to all..a pile of wet tears right now as well. Bruce, may you be granted a peaceful journey..you well deserve it!

Hey Bruce , we've started a bike trail in honour of how you live, laugh and shred. It'll be called "I love ya man "
ReplyDelete'til we ride together again, Brian
Bruce , you are a beautiful soul and a lovely man, thank you for being my friend.
ReplyDeleteLove Nancy-Vous etes dans nos pensees
Bruce buddy...kinda early to be taking the next step on the cosmic ski trip. Take comfort that MF and Emilie are surrounded by love, warmth and community. They....we all...are more special and better people in our lives because of the guy who "loves you man".
ReplyDeleteI love you man. Gerry Garcia sang an awesome tune that is as beautiful as it is peaceful. Fare thee well old chum. I have a weeping willow on the farm in the Blaeberry that is now going to be called Bruce's tree.
Brokedown Palace
Fare you well, my honey, fare you well my only true one.
All the birds that were singing are flown, except you alone.
Going to leave this brokedown palace,
On my hand and knees, I will roll, roll, roll.
Make myself a bed in the waterside,
In my time, I will roll, roll roll.
In a bed, in a bed, by the waterside I will lay my head.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.
River going to take me, sing sweet and sleepy,
Sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home.
Its a far gone lullaby, sung many years ago.
Mama, mama many worlds Ive come since I first left home.
Goin home, goin home, by the riverside I will rest my bones,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.
Going to plant a weeping willow,
On the banks green edge it will grow, grow, grow.
Sing a lullaby beside the water,
Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll.
Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

This is with great sadness that we read this news...Our thoughts and prayers are with you!
ReplyDeleteYour friends at Pine Cones B&B
Bruce/MF - You invited me, a perfect stranger into your home, and gave me shelter, a place to call my own. Your kindness, love and laughter have always been, and will always be a part of the great memories I have from being in your lives. Emilie - you weren't even born yet, and when you were - you always made your Daddy's eyes sparkle with such love that only a parent can know. Bruce, you have touched so many peoples' lives in so many ways, ways you may never know - but touched each one with joy, laughter and comfort. It is now our turn to tell you "thank you" for coming into our lives. The time is short, and we want more of it with you, but the times we have all had with you will be treasured like the finest jewels. Bruce - take care, and look in on MF, Emilie and the rest of us from time to time.
ReplyDeleteWith Blessings and Love

I'm so sorry but pray that you will be in a peaceful place where there is no disease, pain or tears. We all too must someday end our journey of life. I will miss your bright smile and look of love for Emilie. Lots of love to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteReading these messages Bruce, I get the feeling your heart is too big for this life. After only 50 years, it needs to break the shackles of our familiar, shared existence and go explore what the hell else there is beyond. Whatever that may be, I'm guessing you are going to be the guy pouring drinks.
ReplyDeleteBut I haven't given up all hope yet Bruce. You see, I'm pretty sure you owe me a couple left-handed cigarettes. If this shit really goes down though, I'll come collect on the other side some day. Christ, I hope they have left-handed cigarettes there.
You will be sorely missed by the ones left behind. Loved, cherished, remembered.
Steve
THANK YOU,BRUCE MF AND EMELIE FOR ALLOWING ME TO EXPERIENCE AND WITNESS THE "BRUCE LESSOR JOURNEY". BRUCE, YOU ARE TRULY A LENGENDARY PERSON FOR YOUR KINDNESS, YOUR SMILE AND YOUR SKIING ANDD MOST OF ALL, FOR THE WAY YOU BROUGHT US ALL TOGETHER FOR THIS CAUSE. I DIDN'T KNOW WHEN I MET YOU 25 YEARS AGO THAT YOU WOULD BECOME A FRIEND TO SO MANY AND SUCH AN INSPIRATIONAL GATHERER OF LOVING SOULS. NOW I KNOW!!!I CRIED WHILE WATCHING THE BENIFIT VIDEO, I LAUGHED DURING THE DECK RENO AND NOW I CRY AND SAY GOODBYE......IT HURTS LIKE HELL...14

ReplyDeleteTo laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch.... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!! -Emerson

Oh my friend, What does one say?
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to hear your voice yesterday not expecting to reach you.
I remember my friemd Bruce, my roommate at one time, the bartender/manager that moved from one bar to the next and then back again. All those times I came back to work in Banff you were that familiar and happy face. The guy everyone loved and could never say a bad word about. You were the best person to bike and ski with-my memories will never leave me.
I think of you when I ski and remember the pointers you once gave me. We all wanted to be as awesome as you on the mountain. I now pass those pointers on to my son and never forget who taught me them.
I hope we all have the support and love you have when it is our turn. You have touched us all in such tremendous ways. Your strength is unbelievable. You are an ispiration. I love you bud.
You told me you had figured it all out and were living the life you had dreamt of with a beautiful wife and daughter, your B&B, skiing and coaching Emilie in her sports. Many can never say that.
Bruce I wish you peace, beautiful dreams and no more pain. I will look to the stars and think of you. I as well hope you look down on us and give us some signs so we know you are well.
MF and Emilie you are lucky to have a husband and daddy who has touched so many lives. I send you hugs and precious memories to hold onto. I know he will watch over you and help guide you thru this.
Thank you to all who created this Blog and kept us all informed. It could not have been easy all the time but really has meant so much to all of us.
Sleep well my friend you will be missed.
Love you
Tracy
It is so hard to say something that another of your dear friends hasn't said. I was thinking of
ReplyDeleteyou on my ride today and was wondering how many of your other friends were doing the same. You've touched so many people in a meaningful way by simply being yourself. That's that "real" quality that you are blessed with. We all saw it and loved you for it. We are all Lessors tonight. I love you and feel a kinship with all those I've met through you. I could go on forever , you will always be held close to my heart and will continue to inspire me the rest of my days. You're beyond categorization, you are a one and only. Peace to you and all of your friends, a million turns are coming with your name on everyone.
Love forever..
Richard
We only met you for a week staying at the B&B but it´s so strange, seems that week was a concentrate of life. After only a week it feels that we have spent much more time together...laughter, socializing relaxing and now this. Can´t beleive it´s true when I´m thinking of that powder day in Feb skiing with you your favourite line in Feuz Bowl.
ReplyDeleteYou will always be remembered by two ski freaks from Sweden, the first turn this winter will be to your honor, and I promise it will be the best turn from me ever !

I want to live,
I want to give
I´ve been a miner
for a heart of gold.
It´s these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
for a heart of gold
And I´m getting old.
Keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I´m getting old
Bruce, There isn't much else one can add to the huge flow of wishes and thank yous that you are receiving.
ReplyDeleteFrancine Mycelf asn Mathieu and Guillaume are all with you in thought this week.
Last nignt we had dinner at a friend's , who recently visited briefly the place where you are headed; he says to have no fear, that all is peaceful, inviting and quiet over there.

Hi Bruce, it is MIMI - I just want to tell you that I am so glad that you make happy Marie France ad Emilie. YOu were so much so great for them. I am so glad I have met you. I just regret one thing. I did not have the chance to ski with you...may be it is better. I do not know if I would have been able to follow you...
ReplyDeleteI remember when you gave white roses to all the ladies à the church after Emilie was babtised. We were all so touched. It was very nice of you.
We are praying for you and for Marie France and Emilie.
Mimi and Bob
Bruce - this is so surreal, how do you say goodbye on a blog?
ReplyDeleteIf the whole point is to leave this world a better place than when you found it, well my friend, you've done it. Thank you for reminding me that the greatest thing is to love and be loved.
I know I'll be at the Lake one day and look up at some godforsaken double black run your buddies have named after you....and I'll smile and shake my head and then get the hell out of the way because Emilie will probably be on her way down :-)
Hold those girls of yours close.
MF - strength, courage, grace. I'm always here. Call me when you're ready.
I love you guys.
Camille
Bruce Buddy,
ReplyDeleteIt's been such a privlege to know you and to make turns with you (but it was way to short). We can only hope to laugh, love and ski as much as you have in our lifetime. You are an inspiration to us all...
Here's to a life lived to the fullest and the promise of long steeps and deep freshies on the other side.
We will miss you huge, big big hugs!
Colin and Jo
Bruce, I am so saddened to read this news. I have so many fond memories of the times I lived with you and MF both at 5th Street and Ridge Road. You are the most positive, kind-hearted, generous person and truly an inspiration of how to live life to the fullest. My thoughts are with all of you at this time.
ReplyDeleteLots of love, Mandy
Who do you suppose will drink "amber russians" with me now? I love you Bruce. You truly are an inspiration.

ReplyDeletebruce you know the end to that famous bar cheer, we yelled it so many times, , can't think of anyone who has met you that didn't always find you friendly, welcoming, smiling...I know that anyone who had the opportunity to be part of your life, even for a short time, loved you
you are right Bruce,,
This sucks
you can leave this place KNOWING you have made a difference, knowing you have touched so many hearts, created cherished memories, you brought energy and life to people's lives, especially mine...
for this I thank you....
forever in my heart and memories

Brucie,
ReplyDeleteI say your name with fond admiration, for you have shared your passion with me for more than 25 years.
You have embraced your love for life and the people that have been so fortunate to experience your unique energy.
This truely does "SUCK" ...and know that you have fought for your life, but now you live through all of us.
I will always remember your kind hearted, friendly energy... from those early days at Mels to rippin' white horn 2 and trying to keep up as you sail over leap frog, to sipping fine red at your beautiful home in Golden.
That's just a drop of memories that weave through the ripples of your life and how you have touched so many !!
Be strong through this next journey and know that your family, MF and Emilie will be lifted with your spirit and all of us bask in your glow !!
Forever your friend,
Cuxy
Hey Bud,
ReplyDeleteBrutus here,I was out watching the meteor shower last night after a few drinks with Weeble on his Birthday, drunk and thinking of you. So many good times over the years, you we're always good to me and the other young punks, putting up with our youthful stupidy. I know of no other person with a heart like yours. It has been an honour to be part of your world, as it will be in the next one. Head up, stick on the ice.
Love you xoxo
Brucey,
ReplyDeleteIt must feel pretty damn good to know you didn't waste your time trippin' through this world. Clearly a role model on how to live properly, forever a bright smile (I see you've passed that trait along), and surrounding yourself with a beautiful family... what an amazing and no doubt fulfilling journey. All those sweet lines were there before any of us arrived and they'll still be there long after we're gone, I find comfort in that - and oh yes, we are all on the same path. Know that you certainly did it up proper and for me, it's been an absolute privilege amigo and I'll cherish all the years and laughter. Now go show the angels how to shred!!
Love ya bro.
Carlito & family.
Bruce; If life were in fact a shish ka bob,we're all after the longest one.Bruce, you got the one with the most goodies on it my friend.
ReplyDeleteWe should all take page out of your book.Smile, make a friend,be a friend, help a friend.
Love to you and yours.
Tommy O',Berger,Eva and Maggie.
P.S. I know we had some good chats the last couple months. If you can keep it under you hat,a couple things I didn't tell ya.I danced to the Bee Gees once and you are a good man.
Tommy O'
Big hugs from Revelstoke!
ReplyDeleteI'm sending positive thoughts and strength your way.
Who could ever forget a smile as bright as yours!
Kaliegh
I'll never forget turning up on your doorstep after you advertised a basement suite for rent - and offering you more than you were asking!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out to be the BEST thing that I ever did! I am so glad that I answered your ad, way back when.
Not only did Katie and I get welcomed into your house, you treated us as family - that only happens once, I figure - complete strangers becoming such good mates. I still every so often have good memories of the dinners we had, watching Kita take Katie for a walk! Dinner at Zona's, and who could forget (or remember) New Year's 1999? Awesome night, firepit and warm to boot.
When people found out that I was living with you two, I was the envy of people in the Bow Valley!
Whether it was a quiet dinner, with some beverages or a full blown dinner party - we felt like we were life long friends.
I think the hardest thing I have done, was to move out - because I knew that we would be half a world away.
I was lucky to catch up with you guys in 2002, when I was back.
The Ennis clan was over the moon, when we came to visit 2008 in Golden! Zoe and Emilie playing together, the hot tub and of course, a dinner party! Bruce seemed to be on top of the world, a proud Dad, skiing in the afternoons. Using that same Barbary's persona to run the B&B.
Oh Mate, this does suck - we are so far away, but the Lessor's are close in our hearts.
I'll leave with lyrics from Zed Zepplin's "In My Time of Dying"- the same track that was in my car, when my Dad passed:
Oh, I did somebody some good. Somebody some good....
Oh, did somebody some good. I must have did somebody some good...
Oh, I believe I did
I see the smiling faces
I know I must have left some traces
Bruce, you sure did!
M.F. and Emilie, our thoughts are with you.
Casey, Katie, Zoe and Rose Ennis
Bruce, MF, Emelie...
ReplyDeleteFrom Mount St Louis to Kicking Horse, we will always have you showing us the good stuff...
We will always come to Golden and call MF up for a few turns and a corona. And when your girls come to Ontario...we will introduce them to the Tiki hut, go waterskiing and laugh.
forever friends, Pam and Charlie
Brucey -
ReplyDeleteYou've been loved by my family longer than I've been alive - I grew up on stories of you and Pete! I can't imagine you anything other than smiling and laughing and getting into mischief. We're all thinking about you, sending you, M.F. and Emilie our prayers and our love.
Andrea & Doreen O.

Bruce,
ReplyDeleteI met you only for a few days during out 2008 Denny Bartlett Memorial Trip to Banff...and you and your beautiful family touched my heart then, and even more in the past months. I've followed your every post, and prayed for you. May you and your family find the strength and comfort that you need in knowing that you touched so many hearts and lives along your journey, which has been far too short...but your journey was a good one, an inspirational one!
May God Bless You and Keep You Safe...an angel watching over all of us! Thank you for touching my heart and my life. With Love, Richelle
Dear Bruce, MF and Emilie -
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you and so are Lily's. I pray for your family and admire your integrity, your carrying on with a positive outlook and continue to be together to live every moment as they are - moments. Thank you for being strong, thank you for being here to share with us your special gifts that have made our lives better.
We are thinking of you!!
Sarah and Lily
Dear Bruce,
ReplyDeleteI only hope you get this in time.....
My cousin Carolyn Soukas from Banff is here visiting me in Ontario and told me of your story. It was funny how it came about....we were jet boating on the Niagra River and on our way back I asked her how some of the old Tommy's gang were doing. Your name was the first I asked about. Jet boating and asking about you...now there`s a great combination! Just like you lived life...fast and with the greatest of determination.
I remember 5 years ago when I saw you again for the first time in 15 years working behind the bar at Kicking Horse and I said to my friends who were rushing me to take more runs, "there's some one here I have to shake hands with first before we go out again." I'm so glad to have seen you again in good health. You had just started the B&B and the excitement in your voice as you told me the story about fixing it up was infectious. I will always have such great memories of you....working together at Tommy's...."clean, clean clean" as you slapped your hands on top of one another. "time to lean...time to clean" was your motto.
My friend I am grateful to have had the pleasure to have known you. Say hello to Hollywood (Mike) for me when you meet him again.
I don't know what else to say. There`s always so much to say with little time to say it in.
You`re right....this sucks!
I will tell your story for the rest of my life, and to my own children. I hope to some day meet up with you again.
Greg Wyld and Family
Hey Good Buddy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories, thanks for the friendship always in my heart
Tommy and family
Dear Bruce,MF and Emilie,
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts and prayers are with you, your courage and strength is so amazing,it's hard to accept that it is time to say goodbye. From the early days in the 80's dogsledding with you, to the amazing powder days the 4 of us shared over the past few years, the fantastic memories are everlasting. You'll always be in our hearts , and I know you'll be watching over us from heaven. Godspeed Bruce, love ya man... xoxo
Karen, Mark Goodchild and family
Bruce,
ReplyDeleteMy friend, I had the best time with you, your very positive views always impressed me, I was very happy that my friend Marie was with someone like you, with a state of mind, a positive spirit that make us love mountain and winter and life. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I totally loved skiing with you guys both at Louise and last year at Kicking Horse. Bruce you have been an amazing role model of how to handle a shitty deal with incredible style and class (just like you ski). MF you are an amazingly strong woman. Watching you guys together it was easy to see you were in love and that you were great pals on top of it. Love to you MF & Emilie.

Bruce I want to thank you for welcoming my family into yours. Christmas dinner will never be the same. I have had very few heroes in my life. In fact Bruce you have inspired me and touched my family with more power than what seems possible in four years. I will look to you for inspiration and guidance in the mountains always. Seeing your beautiful smile as you walk to the ice cream store surrounded by a parade of laughing little girls will be one of my fondest memories. May Mother Earth lift you up, embrace you and absorb your spirit and enery as so many of us have in your life. Love Randy, Cat, Jasmine and Samara
ReplyDeleteBruce,
ReplyDeleteI can only say that I did not know you well enough, but I did know you enough to know that you are a great man. You will be missed by many in so many ways. Rob and many others that have gone before you are waiting with open arms. Enjoy the endless powder and the crisp clear blue skies. We that remain will take care of MF and Emilie for you.
We love you, Anna and Grant Randell

Dear Bruce, MF and Emilie,
ReplyDeleteA couple of quotes remind me of you, Bruce.
"It is not length of life, but depth of life."
- Emerson, Ralph Waldo (1803-1882)
And
"I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter."
-Winston Churchill
You've had great depth, and I'm sure the Maker will have a hard time keeping up with your turns. The world was a better place having had you in it.
MF and Emilie, I am sure he will always be watching over you, and you will feel his spirit always.
Love to you all,
Lorraine, Jon and the Peanut
"We can never replace a friend. When a man is fortunate to have several, he finds they are all different. No one has a double in friendship."

The suffering is over - now it's time to rest. Keep that contagious smile looking down on all of us Bruce. We will continue to send our love and support to your 2 beautiful ladies. You were, and still are a very special man.
ReplyDeletewith love, Lisa Crotty
Bruce and MF, I was always thrilled to ski and bike with you both.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I got to make some turns with you both last winter.
It was one of the highlights of my trip back to Canada.
You were truly living the dream together and I was so happy for your good fortune.
You were always the man who knew where the 'goods' were at the 'Lake' and also at the 'Horse'.
I was so happy to reciprocate when it came to a new bike trail or skiing in Whistler.
The world will be a sadder place without you but your enthusiasm and passion for life will live on in all who are better people for having known you.
When we meet again I'm sure you'll show us the goods, as always.
With Love to the Lessors, Gary
